Feast: A record walnut harvest!

A record walnut harvest and a call for a more resilient British food system.

This week, FEAST magazine shines a spotlight on Sharpham Park’s biggest-ever walnut harvest and the movement it represents: the revival of home-grown nuts, fruit and vegetables in the UK.

From fashion to farming, our founder Roger Saul’s journey has always been about design with purpose — and now that purpose is food resilience. After 20 years of growing walnuts organically in Somerset, this year’s “mast” harvest is three times bigger than any before. Proof that, with care for soil and patience with nature, the UK can grow what it needs.

But it’s also a wake-up call.

“We import nearly all the nuts we eat, over 80% of our fruit, and half of our vegetables,” Roger says. “With the right support, that could change.”

Last week’s VIP harvest celebration at Sharpham Park brought together chefs, growers, makers and journalists to see this potential first-hand — from orchard tours and walnut dye demonstrations to chef collaborations with Olives Et Al, Josh Eggleton, Emma D’Arcy and Val Stones.

As conversations around food security gain urgency, our hope is simple: that British-grown produce will be championed, not sidelined. Because the future of food isn’t just about what we eat — it’s about where and how it’s grown.

🥜 The British walnut may be small, but it represents something much bigger.
